5 Puppy Teething Remedies That Work
66
Puppy starts getting teeth when he is around 2 weeks old and by the time he is 12 weeks he will have all the teeth. As the puppy gets all the teeth after sometime he will lose the old ones and get the permanent ones. When the new teeth come in, the puppy might face swelling, redness and irritation. Here are 5 puppy teething remedies to reduce pain and the risk of your puppy chewing up things while he's teething.
1. Keep something for your puppy to chew:
It will be good if you keep something acceptable that your puppy can chew on. New teeth put pressure on puppy’s gum. He will tend to look for things that he can chew on. If puppy will not have chew toys, he might chew on your furniture or shoes or other things. But do not offer more than two or three chew toys otherwise puppy will not distinguish between chew toys and home items.
2. Encourage to chew:
To make your puppy to chew more on the toy that you have bought rub a little bit peanut butter on its teeth once or twice a day. You can also try other flavors such as bacon grease.
3. Ice for relief:
Apart from chew toys, give ice cubes to your puppy to chew. Put some ice cubes in his bowl or throw ice cubes in front of him, as ice slips repeatedly from his mouth he will chew again and again. This exercise will give some soothing relief to the gums.
4. Freezing dish rag:
After dipping the dish rag in water, twist it and bend it like a rope and freeze it in that shape. And when you notice that your puppy wants to chew on something throw that rag in front of him. As he will chew on it, the freezing rag will make his gums go numb and will thus provide relief from gum pain. After the puppy is over with chewing, rinse the rag and keep it in freezer for further use.
5. Rub gums:
Take the puppy in your lap and rub his gums for a few minutes. This exercise will also provide relief from the pain during teething days.
